A one Muyanja Isaac from Mbarara university of science and technology has petitioned the guild leadership over the delayed guild elections.
In a letter he sent to the Guild justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister and the Dean of Students, Muyanja a fourth-year medical student cited that Guild elections are supposed to be conducted between the 9th and 12th week of the second semester and currently there is no official communication from the guild about the forthcoming elections.
‘’Article 9 of about guild elections under the clause iii of section 1 states that Guild elections shall be held between the 9th and 12th week of the second semester. As of Today, we are already 10 weeks into the second semester and no communication whatsoever has come out of the ruling Guild about the Guild elections,’’ he stated.
He further revealed that the constitution provides an option of the caretaker government in an event that the term of office expires.
‘’I implore you to benchmark on the supreme law of the land so that you make a recommendation on what can be done for the posterity. Article 7 instead talks about the caretaker government only in an event of resignation pr impeachment of the executive,’’ Muyanja added.‘’
The Guild needs to communicate what’s going on, its true other Universities are already into the electoral process, Nkumba, IUIU and others. We also need to see the process on going. We also want to set a future where the guild doesn’t keep quiet in times of uncertainty,’’ he appealed.
MUST last held Guild elections in February 2021 where Mariam Iculet won the Guild presidential race.
