News spreading like a bushfire all around Kyambogo University campus is that this semester one 2021/2022 has been extended by a month.
The communication was made by the top management – the University Senate.
Most lecturers and Deans of faculties have received this communication in a documented form but the final communication about this will be given by the office of the Academic Registrar very soon.
The fact that most lecturers and examination coordinators are already delivering what could be good news to some and bad news to others insinuates that the extention is true.
This follows the many complaints about the short stressful semester by some lecturers and students and their suggestions to extend the semester.
Examinations that were scheduled to begin on 8th August 2022 are now likely to begin around 8th September.
That means that the semester will not end on 4th September but at a very much later date yet to be known.
The graduation ceremony that was scheduled for September has been pushed to the early days of December.
Every program according to the academic calendar is affected, Internship and teaching practice that were to take place in January will instead take place in late February or March.
Very many students are excited about the extention as they claim most of them hadn’t yet paid the large sums of tuition and hadn’t yet studied adequately or sufficiently for them to do examinations very soon.
Engineering students say they hadn’t even had ample time for their practical activities. Lecturers are happy because most of them hadn’t yet finished marking and releasing the last semester’s results and yet still had to meet coursework and test deadlines after a very short time of teaching.
The negative consequences of this extention are already making some students anxious as they worry that their landlords at hostels and rentals might increase the rent earlier charged.
