Makerere University’s guild president, Ivan Bwowe has warned that the ‘madness’ of strikes at the biggest university in Uganda every beginning of every academic year should be put to an end.
“We received a letter dated 26th June,2014 of the lecturers and other staff members through their associations MUASA/MASA/NUEI warning to strike and informing the university that if their grievances are not solved, it should not consider opening the university in August,” the press release read.
He added: “This is a very deadly move and the University Management should do everything they can to settle the grievances. Otherwise, we are sticking to the University Opening in Normal time as the Students Fraternity.” Bwowe made these remarks in a press statement released yesterday by the guild council.
“This confusion every beginning of Every academic Year should end,” Bwowe warned.
The lecturers have given the university administration up to July 4 to clear all their arrears.
