Yesterday, the polling agents at Gulu university on different polling stations like at Ocwee Memorial Hostel, packed their voting materials after the elections were cancelled without giving satisfactory information to students who were excited to cast vote for their favorite candidates and others who had voted, lost words.
After the postponement of Guild Elections, the students and different political camps are struggling to find answers for the ‘misfortune’. Many have resorted to blame games and conspiracies to keep their camps intact or distance themselves from the electoral commission while others are projecting their rage to the organizers-Electoral commission.
This follows fears that the postponement denies some aspirants the chance to scoop their pending win.
Some believe that elections have been infiltrated by Mafias whose invisible hand is so strong to delay elections so as to buy time for the unprepared aspirants who were heading for doom. “We know they are giving time to their candidate to campaign. They plotted the printing of invalid votes”, one student said.
Many students started to cry foul over alleged vote rigging plots orchestrated by different camps.
Sunday’s cancellation of voting process ignites the thoughts that indeed it’s a staged plot to rig election and siege the guild government. “They want to cheat us”, has become common slogan for all camps who are pointing fingers at each other
Many students have started to call for reshuffling of entire electoral commission and resignation of former Guild speaker, Mr. Mugerwa Herbert, who by guild constitution is mandated to be returning officer of Guild Elections.
We are waiting for communication from electoral commission, caretaker government. Keep on campus bee for the updates
