Coronavirus! How to Keep Yourself Protected From the Epidemic at Campus in case the Worst Happens

What started as a mystery virus last month in Wuhan, China, has now killed more than 250 people and infected thousands more around the world. And with cases presently being reported in Nigeria and Egypt, Corona virus has raised a very big concern in public places all over the neighboring countries, not excluding campus.

Yes, you read that right. University is one place where people from every corner of the society come together with no segregation or isolation making it so easy for any epidemic disease to be contracted. So whoever you are and wherever you are, as part of the University community, Campus Bee is taking this space to let you know about the different ways you can protect yourself against this deadly disease;

  1. Keep your hands clean everytime. If there is any time in your life you need soap and water the most, now is that time. Make it a habit to wash your hands frequently. It doesn’t matter whether you just returned from a shop next door or from a mobile money agent, keep your hands clean!
  2. Cover your mouth and nose with your hankie when you cough or sneeze. It is true that most of us don’t take the use of hankies seriously and we often leave them behind when going to class or outdoor assuming we won’t need them as much; the real question is how much is enough? Hankies could save you a whole lifetime with the fast rate at which this virus is spreading because you really know from which corner the virus could hit.
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose if your hands aren’t clean. I understand you’ve had long nights of studying and revising your books and that your eyes are frequently getting itchy and you are left with no option but to rub them with your bare hands. The question is how confident are you that your hands are clean. To clear any kind of doubt, please for the sake of your health, wash your hands first, or rather, clean your eyes with water instead. The same applies to rubbing your nose for the fact that it’s an opening on your body that is exposed.
  4. Maintain social distancing. Here we are, on a topic that will be received with a lot of mixed reactions. As a campuser, the night life is like a part of your body you can’t do without. Going to clubs, concerts, conferences name them is okay, and I’m not saying its bad, but at this point of corona virus state of emergencies, I could advise you to look into it more closely. So I have a little message for you, how about you bring the bar to your room and call friends you’ve known for sometime? It would be an adventure to try out and have your drink ups in your room and enjoy as much as you would if you went out to a bar that has people you have never even met before and besides, you don’t even know where they are coming from.
  5. Do away with raw or half cooked food stuff. Junk food and roasted meaty foods are usually attached to being delicious and yummy. To be more contextual, ‘nyanya mbisi’ is your favorite fast food and you even marked your favorite rolex maker operating by the road side. And on chilly days, all you wanna do is  just sit back and ‘chaw’ your rolex. The question is do you ever go an extra mile to find out the kind of water your rolex maker uses to make those chapatis. Corona being a contagious virus, is so easily transmitted through water(fluids) and animals. That makes the eggs consumed in these Rolexes a very big concern too. So, it’s a lot safer to cook the eggs yourself or rather, prepare yourself a well cooked meal to destroy any kind of doubt.

As Campus Bee, you know, we care a lot about your well being during and after your stay at campus. If you read this and you find it really important, kindly share it with your friends and keep our community healthy and kicking.
