Makerere University College of Health Sciences (CHS) has made adjustments to the anticipated internship, electives, and industrial placement program for medical students following COVID-19 repercussions.

In a letter addressed to student leaders and Class representatives, the Health College Principle, Prof Charles Ibingira notes the different resolutions made by a ‘special’ meeting of the University senate in June.

“The internship will be conducted less by 2 weeks with supervisors and instructors who have not given introductory lectures before COVID-19 Lockdown to give them by e-learning in the initial phases of the respective placements,” reads part of the letter.

As the re-opening of schools and Universities remains unknown, it should be remembered that Makerere University resolved to let the 2019/2020 internship proceed.

Medical interns are sought to be very important in the current pandemic as they boost the front liners in the fight against the Coronavirus.
