The closure of academic institutions by the government to reduce on the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) has left many students especially finalists wondering what to do next.
Some have lost hopes of schools resuming soon and they have decided to graduate themselves like the case of an engineering student from Makerere. But this is not the case to others like a one Noeline Kaache who shared with Campus Bee how she has utilized COVID-19 Lockdown. Ms Kaache is a finalist at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Livelihood and Farm Production.
Here is her story;
I am here to share with you my experiences during this period of lockdown. It is so unlucky that we are just on hold to complete the academic year because of what’s happening globally due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, but hope one-day God will help us and we resume to complete studies.
At first after the break off for the quarantine, I was cursing everything about the President’s decision to close the schools and universities, since I was so anxious about completing the academic year, but later I got used after spending several weeks at home and losing hopes for resuming school so soon.
I cut my pressure for school and started thinking of what next, I came up with ideas to make myself busy and gain something out of this period. I made a list of what I love doing and set strategies on how they will be accomplished. I listed majorly 4 things which will make me busy specifically in this period as below.
- Baking cakes for my family, chapatis, pancakes, samosas but focusing more on cake making. I do this two times in a week.
- Facial repair using the local foods like lemon, eggs, cucumber, carrots, avocado, pawpaw and honey. These can make a nice and health skin, I do this on my own face, Auntie and Uncle and I have perfected in it, our skins are looking so nice and lovely when you see us. I do this 3 times a week.
- Assisting my siblings in studies. I teach them every day following a timetable we made together, trust me by the end of this period they will be the best because we have done enough.
- Writing stories. I mainly focused on the African woman and a child of which I am thinking that one day they will be full books that will be published for everyone to read and smile, appreciate a woman and understand a gift of having a child. Every time I sit down I think of what is really interesting and I write my minds exhausting them. These make me smile every time.
This period has really helped me discover a lot, do a lot and understand myself, know what I can do and what I cannot. With those I am not settled because my brains are at work.
Students out there, should do something in this period that will add something on you don not waste time. Keep yourself busy because an idle mind is a devil’s workshop this is the period to make it happen.
