In order to reduce on the spread of COVID-19, schools were closed on the 20th of March following the presidential directive.
As a result, many teachers and lecturers of schools and institutions of higher learning have been forced to turn to other sources of income in order to be able to provide for themselves as well as their families.
In a bid to restrict cash flow as a result of limited resources, UCU suspended its staff about two months ago.
However the Uganda Christian University (UCU) fraternity having realised that times have been tough has come out in the spirit of care and donated relief items to its members of staff. The items include; posho, sugar, salt, tea leaves, cow peas and soap.
“All of us are going through a very difficult time to provide for ourselves and our families. It is in the spirit of care that UCU is distributing to its staff basic items to share with their families during these hard times; posho, sugar, tea leaves, soap, salt and cowpeas.” A statement from the university read.
