The ongoing construction of Makerere University main gate has steadily moved from one level to another. At the moment, the first layer of tarmac stones has already been poured on the new Makerere hill road.
The construction of this high-level gate and nearby roads was funded by the World Bank group through Kampala capital city authority (KCCA) as the client of this multi-million project. The project was contracted to China Railway Seventh Group as the main contractors with consultation expertise from Korea Engineering Consultation Corp.
Car movements through the main gate were blocked but pedestrians to and from Makerere University have been diverted to the roadside next to the University Mosque. Roads towards Makerere University are also undergoing improvement and expansion exercises starting from Wandegeya round about, Total petrol station all the way to the main gate.
In the relation to the future looks of the gate released by KCCA a few weeks ago, it is safe to say that the construction exercise is still in its early stages. We will keep you updated about this project as construction goes on.
