Controversial city businessman and social commentator Mr. Frank Gashumba has come out spitting fire at Bwowe Ivan the immediate former guild president of Makerere University whom he accused of having attempted to mobilize students via social media to attack him for the provocative comments he made earlier referring to Makerere Students as hooligans.
Appearing on the 88.2 Sanyu Fm’s breakfast show on Wednesday, a tough-talking Gashumba admonished Bwowe for his “reckless” Facebook posts in the Makerere University Students Guild page in which he was responding to the former’s comments that he had made in the aftermath of his and his daughter’s unceremonious banishment from the university by irate students. “The day you threaten my life is the day you’ll taste my DNA,” he told the Ex MUK guild president on air.
Mr. Gashumba also added that what’s important is not the degree you get from MUK but the change you cause in yourself and among others.
On the issue of the Sunday killing of Ojok David at Nkrumah hall, Makerere University, Gashumba had no kind words for the suspects who took part in it. He said that such people should be taken straight to Luzira Maximum Security Prison where they belong and that if there are no convictions made by court, other students will now have even more reasons to carry out mob justice, after all “nothing was done to the other ones”.
Asked what he thinks should be done about incidents such as that that happened at Nkrumah and whether he talks because he holds a grudge against the university, Gashumba responded that the university should have strict laws that all students sign before they are even admitted. He also added that “parents should talk to their children when they come back for holidays. Its unfair to accuse me of holding a grudge. Why is it that the bad cases always come from Muk, not other campuses?”
When the one of the hosts reasoned with him that students take to such acts out of frustration due to the numerous incidents of theft at the university, Gashumba maintained that even if there have been a thousand incidents, killing one still cant justify it.
It remains to be seen what the reaction of muk students is going to be towards Gashumba’s latest outburst.
