Ugandans on Twitter are taking on NBS TV news anchor Canary Mugume for rushing to share unconfirmed updates. Mugume, yesterday took to his Twitter to announce that his “deep throat sources” in Kigali had informed him that President Museveni’s brother Gen. Salim Saleh was set to travel to Rwanda.
According to his sources, the General was expected to stay in Kigali for one week trying to improve the Uganda-Rwanda relations. Following Mugume’s tweet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement revealing that information circulating about the said visit is not true.
“For the record, there is no planned visit to Kigali by General Salim Saleh as purported by the NBS journalist through his twitter handle @canaryMugume.” The Ministry’s statement reads in part.
Through the same platform, Mugume clarified that there is no planned visit by Gen. Saleh to Kigali moments after the Foreign Affairs Ministry rubbished his update.
“I’ve retracted my tweet about Gen.Salim Saleh’s visit to Kigali this week following the statement from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uganda that there’s no planned visit.” Mugume tweeted.
Ugandans have now taken to Twitter to roast Mugume for posting recklessly.
“The deep throat sources finally gagged?” One Tweep wondered.
“With this speed, you must be very careful. You might fail to produce” Another Tweep commented on Mugume’s tweet.
“Anti mupakuka. Uncle mwamufuddeki mwe ba ‘deep throat’ “ A one Evelyn Kigongo commented.
It is worth noting that Mugume also claimed that the planned visit, which was scheduled for this week had been postponed to a later date. It took a few hours before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs punched holes in his report.
