Wails ripped through the quiet Friday afternoon in Kalungu, Masaka as multitudes of mourners proceeded on a somber journey to escort the late Desire Mirembe to her final earthly destination.
The late was brutally murdered last week in Kawolo, Buikwe District by a yet-to-be-identified person, an incident that has sent shockwaves throughout the country and once again brought into question students’s safety while away from home for studies at Campus.
Desire’s burial caps a paticularly sorrowful week for the Musoke family whose happiness was suspended by the disappearance and latter violently shattered by the discovery of their darling last born’s body in a sugarcane plantation.
The discovery of her body followed concerted efforts by her concerned relatives, friends and family who mounted a massive physical and virtual search for the 19yr-old soul whose last communication to family members was a helpless cry for help in the wee hours of Friday night.
Much as at the time of the burial a suspect had already been arrested in connection with the murder, it is still unclear whether he was indeed the killer or has any useful information to give that will be of great use to Police as they carry out investigations that may lead them to the killer.
