Earlier this week we reported an incident where a Fresher was allegedly raped from a lodge in Nankulabye. Our Investigative team was dispatched on ground moving from Makerere and Nankulabye police Posts to White Rose Guest House where it all happened. The details revealed are however disturbing.
According to the OC CID Nankulaabye Police post, this case was reported at 2:30pm on 15th August.
And here’s what transpired earlier that day:-
At 12:00, a female Fresher, whose identity we’ve concealed for the sake of her precious education life, was moving around senate building trying to gather hints about whether to reside in hall or hostel and which particular place is cool amongst the two. It’s at this very juncture that she met a one “Eddie” who introduced himself as a final year student of Bachelors of Science in social development (a ghost course) awaiting graduation later this year (graduation which was done in February). As a fresher, she was awed by the fact this finalist would be the right company to chill with. After a little campus chat, her phone blacked out and she asked “Eddie” if he could help with charging her phone.
Eddie then walked her from senate building, to the main gate round about and finally they were at Ham Towers. Eddie assured her that she would find more about hostels if she came along with him after which she’d also find it easy to get Taxis to Wakiso (where she hailed from). The journey, however, seemed longer as they took a Boda Boda to Nankulabye. The confident Eddie went ahead to walk with her to White Rose Guest house behind Delta Fuel Station.
After payment was done at the reception, she moved along as the waiter directed Eddie to the room. The Guest house administration admitted that they couldn’t sniff any wrong doing because she seemed to have had consent with the guy considering the way she was following unquestionably.
And there she sat on a “well laid bed”, according to her statement. Eddie then took her phone outside where he claimed he would get it charged leaving her in the open room for close to 10 minutes. On returniing, Eddie came clean and asked her for sex something she denied him. Eddie verbally threatened to harm her if she dared to refuse or make an alarm. Eddie, according to the statement, had a knife.
He ordered her to undress peacefully something she did as he also undressed. Feeling frightened, she asked for permission to ease herself first before sex to which Eddie accepted. She went out of the room, eased herself and came back to the room. According to the statement, the victim says Eddie refused to put on a condom- even after begging him to.
After the unprotected sex, Eddie locked her inside the room and fled pretending to have gone out to pick the phone. After minutes of waiting, her instincts arose forcing her to start up a fight with the door knob which attracted the attention of waiters to bring a spare key for her rescue. She then narrated her ordeal to the Guest house management of how she had been raped. Asking for her charging phone’s where abouts, it was no where to be found either. She was assisted with a phone which she used to call her parents who found her at Nankulabye police.
On arrival, she was immediately rushed to Kadic Hospital and subjected to medical examination by a police surgeon attached to Nankulabye police station. The HIV results turned out negative and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) was administered.
While making her police statement, the only thing this Fresher knew about the rapist was that he was putting on a checkered shirt. With all the post rape fever, she couldn’t even describe him physically. In her parents’ presence, she claimed it was her first sex encounter as a virgin.
A case file was opened and shared together with Makerere Police post to launch a hunt for the mysterious Eddie. The guest house manager and some workers were caged for two days as the police investigated. They were later released on police bond after finding no connection between them and the crime suspect.
