School of Education at Makerere University is on fire following the refusal of voters to participate in the revote.
The havoc started earlier today when the Mwotta camp voters refused to participate in any kind of voting on grounds that; many of them did not appear on the voters’ register including Mwotta himself.
According to a one Paul Mwesiga, a team Ssemboga supporter, Mwotta is on the voters register and all is just propaganda for him to push further the inevitable moment of his defeat.
“Mwotta is scared. He cheated in the first voting and is just afraid the truth is going to be revealed now” Paul assured the Bee,
One of the Mwotta supporters attempted to away with a voting cans this morning. The fired up student who first emptied the can’s content however did not make it far as the heavily deployed police secured him into custody.
Earlier yesterday, Mwotta filed for induction in court, hoping to extend the voting time but the court chased the case.
While talking to campus Bee, Mwotta said that his camp has a lot of grievances that has forced it not to participate. firstly, he has highlighted the fact that The Guild Care Taker Electoral commission failed to provide a valid and updated voters register despite his request through the administration. He adds that the electoral commission is dictating the terms of voting where only the current 2nd and 3rd years are allowed to vote which was not the case in march where all the three years participated. They have thus refused to vote unless the former 3rd years awaiting graduation or the current 1st years vote.
Right now, many of the voters and well-wishers of the two candidates are scattered all over the place. The voting exercise is going on with only a few people from the Ssembogga camp participating. Other candidates are nowhere on the grounds apart from the second runner up Simon Ssenyonga.
“I am not yet sure whether am on the list or the candidates. That is what am trying to find out, “ a pre-occupied Ssenyonga revealed.
University hall Chairman where Mwotta resides told the Bee it is better for them not to vote than to be taken unfairly for losers.
“Three days to organize our voters is very little time. The results will end up lacking because many people haven’t made it. Not because Ssembogga can defeat us” he explained.
The big question however is; Will the voting be valid at the end of the day? Will Makerere have a new guild president the longed for this academic year?
According to a fourth year law student, Marvin Saasi, whether the Mwotta camp votes or not. The results will be validated according to court order.
Campus Bee will be on grounds to bring you the latest developments on this story.
