Dr Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi, the incumbent chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) has won elections for the post of chairperson one more time.
He won this election with 605 votes against his opponent Dr. Oria Hussein, a lecturer at the Department of Pharmacy who was serving as the association treasurer. Dr. Oria had 120 votes thereby creating a difference of 485 votes between the two contestants.
Other winners in the race are Dr. Edward Nectar Mwavu who won the race against Crispus Mayora with 586 votes for the post of vice chairperson, Dr. Christine Mbabazi who won as the vice general secretary with 515 votes beating the incumbent Dr Geoffrey Nuwagaba, Chris Charles Kitale who won the race for the position of the association treasurer against Douglas Deogratius Bamweyana with 483 votes.
The association has 1500 members but only 725 voters turned up for the exercise to represent the rest of the members in choosing their leaders who are to hold power for the next two years. This is less than by the invalid votes. Only 17 proxy votes were registered and there was an unknown number of invalid votes. Congratulations to the winning team.
