Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has appointed Dr Robert Bitariho as its Second Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, strengthening the university’s top leadership at a critical time for institutional growth and reform.
Dr Bitariho, an Associate Professor of Environment and Natural Resource Management, brings to the role a strong academic background and extensive experience in university administration and public service.
The appointment was officially announced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Pauline Byakiika-Kibwika, on behalf of the MUST community. In a congratulatory message, Prof Byakiika-Kibwika expressed confidence in Dr Bitariho’s ability to provide effective leadership and ensure sound financial and administrative management at the institution.
“We wish you God’s blessings and a successful tour of duty,” the Vice Chancellor said, noting that the appointment reflects the university’s trust in his professionalism and commitment to service.
Colleagues and members of the academic community have welcomed the appointment, describing Dr Bitariho as a principled leader who has consistently advocated for staff welfare, accountability, and institutional stability.
In messages shared following the announcement, staff praised his calm leadership style and deep understanding of university systems, expressing optimism that his new role will further strengthen MUST’s governance and operational efficiency.
As Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, Dr Bitariho will be responsible for overseeing financial management, human resource administration, infrastructure development, and overall institutional support systems.
Mbarara University of Science and Technology is one of Uganda’s leading public universities, with a growing reputation in health sciences, science, technology, and applied research. University management said the appointment is part of ongoing efforts to consolidate leadership and enhance service delivery across the institution.
Dr Bitariho’s tenure is expected to play a key role in advancing MUST’s strategic goals, particularly in financial sustainability, staff welfare, and administrative effectiveness.
