College votes in the Nation are always rowdy, Makerere’s Guild Speaker-ship race was no exception when a scuffle ensued that involved morale boasters and several GRCs.
After the announcement of the tie, tension engulfed among the already established camps and one of the GRCs was reported to have received a stray jab that seriously bruised him.
The drama started after one of the candidates Asimwe Ismael got zero votes. Suprisingly, if the noise made for each candidate was something to go by, Ismael would have won.
The first round of the vote for Speaker came out as a tie between the favorites Amanya Daniel and Kasujja Imran who tied at 31 votes.
Denis Agaba got 10, Louis Kizito Namwanja had 2, Asimwe Ismael had 0, Ssekyaya Denis got 1, Ruth Nsubuga got 1 and Oyeki Gerald had 5.
In the re-election that ensued and ended at about Midnight, Kasujja Imran eventually emerged winner after polling 48 votes and his closest rival Amanya Daniel got 39 votes. The other contenders got 0 votes in the re-election save for Namwanja Louis Kizito that got one.
In addition to that, the election for deputy speaker that took place in the Conference Room of FST, Members of the GRC of Makerere voted Belinda Nakabajjo as Deputy Speaker of the 82nd Guild Council.
Nakabajjo, who is the GRC of Complex Hall, beat off competition from Lakisa Mercy Faith the Africa Hall GRC by a margin of just 6 votes after garnering 46 and leaving Lakisa to poll 40 of the ballot in an election that registered 3 invalid votes.
In the voting for the Guild Clerk and Deputy, Natukunda Owen and Christine Namazzi emerged the victors in the poll respectively.
