What seemed to be fun for Makerere University Business School [MUBS] student, Gilbert Kiyingi popularly known by friends as ‘Alistair’ turned out to be the worst nightmare he’s probably ever encountered.
Alistair, was on Wednesday evening arrested and thrown behind bars for cyber bulling and blackmailing Typha Kavuma aka TKBerries, also a student at MUBS.
The story
It all started in a WhatsApp group when another group member called Agatha Irakunda sent a meme of the despicable me that reads; “when I am bored I text a random person and ask them where to drop the body after killing the person”.
Bored, Brenda Rukundo, a member in the WhatsApp group and also student at Makerere asks Alistair in the group for any random numbers for her to send random messages of “I killed the the girl, where should I drop the body?”
According to one of the group members who talked to Campus Bee on condition of anonymity, Alistair sent Kavuma’s contact to fall victim of the ‘prank.’ Little did Alistair know it’d throw him in the coolers.
Rukundo goes on to text Kavuma and takes screenshots for the group members to laugh at it.
“The messages Rukundo was sending me depicted that my friend, Sheila Ssempebwa, Rukundo and I conspired and killed a friend [called Kul] and dumped her body in Busiika,” Kavuma told this website.
Kavuma says that Ssempebwa owns a piece of land in Busiika and it is only herself and Alistair who have ever been there, so she sort of figured out it was him [Alistair] behind the ploy.
Netting Alistair
“I created a pseudo Snapchat account with male names using another number, added him as a friend and we begun to chat. Since rumour has it that he likes boys, I sent him a photo of a dude telling him that I once saw him at Atmosphere Lounge, he’s hot and I like him. I told him we’d like to date and he agreed to meet me,” Kavuma narrates.
“We kept on exchanging texts on Snapchat and on Wednesday, we agreed to meet at Atmosphere Lounge. I told him to buy drinks. I went with a detective who wasn’t in police uniform of course and he was netted in the process of meeting his new ‘boyfriend’,” she adds.
Alistair admits
Currently held at Jinja Road Police station, Alistair, after serious grilling admitted that he was behind it all and is the one who gave Rukundo Kavuma’s contact. Asked to produce Rukundo, he could not as rumour has it that she’s gone into hiding.
Alistair is still detained at Jinja Road Police station for Offensive Communication and a case under file number CRB/900/2016 was opened.
