Mrs Baribi Olive Ayo, the Director of Students Affairs (DOSA) of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Main campus rejected the choice the students had made of the best dressed duo at the Freshers Ball that took place on Friday last week.
Towards the end of the Ball, 10 students were chosen from the crowd as some of the best dressed. These students were presented at the center of the stage, so that the rest of the students can decide the best dressed male and female.
It was very clear that the DOSA was disappointed by the students that were coming forward. She looked agitated where she sat, and nearly stood up to her feet to stop the “stylish” ones from ever stepping onto the stage. She however spoke to one guild official, who went to caution the Emcees about the choices they were making.
It was after this, that the 11th person, one other girl, clad in a tradition wear from Western Uganda was invited from the crowd to come forward, the kind that would put a smile of content on the DOSA’s eyes.
Guided by the emcees, Napoleon and Zoey, the students made their decision of a duo that deserved the award, eliminating the obvious choices of the DOSA.
When she came forward to give her speech, the DOSA was asked to award the gifts to the best students. “No offence, but to me, these are my best dressed students, not these two” she said. She then invited the girl in traditional attire and some other students to stand by her and expressed that her selection was the most deserving of the award.
The DOSA however, seemed to be pushed against the wall. She went ahead to award the duo that was selected by the students. “You have made your choice.”
