Lira University received a donation from the Dutch government that will boost its virtual training capacity.
The Dutch government donated different ICT equipment to Lira University through the Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Cooperation (NUFFIC).
The equipment that cost approximately UGX 78 million consists of video conferencing equipment, 2 projectors, 2 projector screens, a printer and a public address system.
The donation was made under the Strengthening Education and Training in Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SET-SRHR) project in Uganda.
Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng (Vice Chancellor Lira University) received the donation on October 11 from Abraham Opito the project’s technical advisor.
Prof. Ogwal hailed the Dutch government, adding that the equipment will boost virtual training at Lira University.
“We do not rely only on physical lectures but rather online teaching, offering learning opportunities to students from across the world. This has been made possible with the help of IT advancement we have adapted into the university system,” Prof Ogwal Okeng said.
Abraham Opito said the equipment is part of a larger support package which has been provided with funding from NUFFIC under the SET-SRHR Project.
According to Opito, the SET-SRHR Project aimed at strengthening SRHR education and training capacity and contributing towards sustainable demographic and human capital development and inclusive economic growth in Uganda.
The project has been implemented by a consortium led by the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam, Rutgers in the Netherlands and Makerere University School of Public Health in Kampala and Nsamizi Institute of Social Studies in Uganda.
The donation of ICT equipment to Lira University comes at a time when the National Council for Higher Education is set to roll out E-learning in all universities.
E-learning requires more ICT equipment and the donation will indeed ease virtual training at Lira University.
