Uganda Christian University (UCU) hosted dignitaries from the Ministry of East African Affairs led by 1st Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga.
This was at the main campus in Mukono, yesterday, June 22, as the Ministry of East African Community convened the second in a series of sensitization meetings with the students’ Community.

“We were honoured to receive the Minister of East African Community Affairs, @RebeccaKadagaUG & her team as they visited UCU to sensitize staff & students on the mandate of the ministry; and on matters about regional integration,” UCU tweeted.
The Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga was welcomed by UCU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi who noted that the former is a parent of UCU because “she had a son here by the name of Timothy Kadaga, who was our Guild president & did a fantastic job.”

“Honourable, welcome back home,” he added.
During the event, students had an opportunity to engage with the Ministry officials, asked questions and presented major challenges facing them as stakeholders of the bloc.
The concerns included; delay in actualization of the freedoms of Movement of Labour, harmonisation of educational standards, right of Residence and not implementing the use of Kiswahili for decades.
Kadaga pledged to address the challenges facing international students (East African) who often struggle when processing visas to travel and study in Uganda.
The former Speaker of the Parliament also explained the importance of The East African Community to students from different countries under a campain; “The East Africa I Deserve”
At the time of her visit, UCU was celebrating the international students’ week.
