Students that were arrested in the East African Oil Project (EACOP) protest have blasted government as court adjourned their case hearing until December 14.
The students who had been arrested during a protest against EACOP project on 4th October were arraigned at Buganda Road Court on October 24 to answer to charges of being a public nuisance.
However, due to lack of clear evidence and need to do more investigations, the case was adjourned.
The accused, led by Musiri David the head of institutions at NUP, say their time is being wasted as it is clear there is no evidence to implicate them.
Musiri says the state is playing a blame game, but they won’t stop fighting to preserve and protect their country.
The students being accused are Lyazi Alex, Java Imuran, Wenani Gerald, Musiri David, Nkrunziza Alphonse, Kagubi Maktum, Akiso Benjamin, Akis Gonga and Nsamba Lubega.
During the October 25 hearing, Alphonse Nkrunziza, one of the accused, did not turn up in court and his lawyer told court he was in isolation having been in contact with an Ebola victim.
The 9 students were first arrested on October 4 at Kingdom Kampala as they held a protest march to petition the European Union over alleged violation of human rights and destruction of nature.
