EC concludes National Voters Register Display

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has officially concluded the nationwide display of the National Voters Register, marking a critical milestone in the preparation for the 2025/2026 General Elections.

The exercise, which began on April 25, 2025, came to an end on May 15 in the majority of polling stations across the country. However, in 620 polling stations where the process faced initial delays due to technical issues in register production, the display will continue until May 20 to complete the full 21-day statutory requirement.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi confirmed that there will be no extension of the voter display exercise. The goal of the initiative was to allow citizens to verify the accuracy of their voter details and flag any irregularities, such as the inclusion of deceased individuals, minors, non-residents, or duplicate entries.

Alongside the general voter roll, registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs)—including youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and older persons—were also displayed at the village level from April 25 to May 8.

As the display phase ends, the Commission now moves into a new critical step: the 10-day public display of persons recommended for removal or inclusion on the register, which will run from May 16 to May 26, 2025. These lists will be available at each Parish or Ward Headquarters, and individuals can raise objections if they believe they have been wrongly listed for deletion.

The final decision on these recommendations will be made by the Parish/Ward Tribunals, composed of elders and members selected in consultation with political parties and appointed by local magistrates.

“This phase ensures that no eligible voter is unjustly excluded and that the final National Voters Register is both accurate and credible,” said Justice Byabakama.

After the tribunal process, the Commission will finalize and produce the official Voters Register to be used in the 2025/2026 General Elections. The first phase of elections—covering Special Interest Group committees—is scheduled for June 2025.

The Electoral Commission has urged citizens to remain engaged throughout the process and reminds all registered voters that they can continue to confirm their voting details at https://ec.or.ug/register.

All complaints related to the display of the register should be directed to the respective District Returning Officers, who will handle them in accordance with the law.

The Commission expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including civil society and political organizations, for supporting public participation in the voter verification process. It emphasized the importance of continued engagement as Uganda heads toward a key electoral season.
