EC: Verification of Special Interest Groups Registers Continues Ahead of 15th May Deadline

The Electoral Commission (EC) is continuing with the verification exercise for the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Registers, which include the registers for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Youth, and Older Persons. This exercise, which began earlier this year, is scheduled to conclude on 15th May 2025.

The purpose of the exercise is to allow eligible individuals in these groups to confirm their details, correct any inaccuracies, and ensure their names are properly included on the registers. The EC is encouraging all concerned citizens to take part in the exercise during the remaining days.

The verification process is being conducted at village display centres across the country. These are the designated locations where the registers have been pinned for public viewing. Individuals are expected to visit the display centres in their respective areas to check and confirm their information.

To improve accessibility and convenience, the Electoral Commission has also provided an online platform where citizens can verify their details. By visiting https://ec.or.ug/register, individuals can quickly check their registration status from anywhere with internet access.

The SIGs verification exercise plays a vital role in ensuring electoral integrity and inclusiveness. By focusing on groups that are often underrepresented or face unique challenges — such as the youth, older persons, and persons with disabilities — the EC aims to strengthen their participation in the democratic process.

This verification exercise is part of the wider electoral preparation activities ahead of the next round of elections. Accurate and up-to-date registers are necessary for organizing credible elections, and the current display offers the last opportunity for eligible voters in these categories to make necessary updates.

Citizens who fail to verify their information during this period risk being excluded from the final SIGs registers, which will be used in upcoming electoral activities specific to these groups. As such, it is important that eligible individuals use the remaining days to complete this process.

The EC advises members of the public to visit their nearest village display centre or make use of the online platform before the 15th May 2025 deadline.

Additional information is available on the Electoral Commission’s official website: https://ec.or.ug.
