Education Ministry Advises IUIU Expelled Students To Appeal in Court

Through their undersecretary, the ministry of Education and sports has advised the 23 expelled IUIU students to appeal in court if they feel being suspended over sex was unfair or if their rights were violated.

Mr Aggrey Kibenge the undersecretary, Ministry of Education and Sports revealed yesterday that matters to do with girl-boy relationships are privately regulated by individual institutions not the ministry itself. Kibenge also clarified that every institution has its rules and regulations which these students signed on admission.

“Every society has norms to govern the people living there and they agree. I can’t start kissing because I am a married man and I have found my wife in the ministry corridors. Young people should also respect the rights of others,” Mr Kibenge said yesterday.

On behalf of the Education Ministry, Mr Kibenge advised the suspended students to appeal in courts of law if they feel unsatisfied by the University’s decision, “The aggrieved can contest in the courts of law. As a ministry, we don’t go to the level of internal regulations. IUIU is a private university. You need to consult with the National Council for Higher Education for guidelines. The ministry can only guide on policy matters such as admissions, accredited courses, and where actions against students are dehumanising, or against the Constitution,” Mr Kibenge added

Following the suspension of 23 students for engaging in “love affairs”, IUIU administration is expected to hold a meeting today April 26th where the final ruling will be communicated to the students as a reaction to the students’ appeal.
