Accompanied by a team from the Ministry of Micro Finance, Minister Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune yesterday successfully launched the Presidential Initiative on Wealth and Job Creation (Emyooga) in Kampala Central and Kawempe Divisions.
While addressing the people of Kampala Central yesterday, Kasolo urged the locals to embrace the initiative in a bid to kick poverty out of their lives. Kasolo added that Emyooga initiative is here for everybody and it is expected to help Ugandans maintain a high saving discipline that most people lack.

Kasolo also confessed that the government has very nice programs but they normally fail to be delivered to the public due to poor leadership at some levels.
“The challenge we have in service delivery is leadership. The government has very good programs but the people that are delegated to take lead are always unbecoming.” Kasolo said.
According to Kasolo, Kampala and Wakiso Districts have been allocated UGX 40 Billion for the Emyooga Program and Kampala is expected to take the lion’s share of UGX 30 Billion.
The Acting Executive Director Microfinance Support Centre, Petronika Hellen Masika recently revealed that they have so far formed 64751 associations and 1373 SACCOS for Emyooga.

The Kampala Central launch was also graced the area’s Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko who applauded Minister Kasolo and the team for the job well done. Nsereko further urged Kampala people to embrace the program while explaining that it is time for them to benefit from the government, having spent years contributing taxes.
Just like his fellow leaders, Nsereko also cautioned the people to avoid politicizing the Emyooga Program because it is for everybody regardless of one’s political party.

The project will avail funds to 18 categories of associations which include; Boda Boda riders, women entrepreneurs, welders, taxi operators, fishermen, restaurant operators, mechanics, veterans, produce dealers, market vendors, tailors, Persons with disabilities (PWD’s), youth leaders, salons, performing artists, journalists and elected leaders.

Each of these associations will form Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) through which they will receive grants of up to UGX 30 million per association.
To subscribe to Emyooga program, each member in the group will pay membership and subscription fees as agreed upon by the group. Membership and annual subscription fees payable by each member association to the constituency SACCO shall not exceed UGX 10,000 and UGX 10,000 respectively.
