Hundreds of holidaymakers and enthusiastic youth flocked Victoria University on Saturday for the Career Day to have themselves equipped with the best tips on how to ably grow their careers and how to best attain their ambitions.

Dubbed the ‘Student of the Future’, the career talk was all about sitting the youth down and drilling through all possible channels and avenues they could use to help them succeed in life and also to desist from misusing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platforms such as social media but rather utilize them to do business and generate money.

Speaking to the hundreds of youth that had showed up at the day’s event; Dr. Sabrina Kitaka, a pediatrician and professor at Makerere College of Health Sciences Mulago called upon young people to limit the way they are using social media platforms; Facebook, WhatsApp and other platforms lest they become addicted. “Some of the Masters students that I teach hardly concentrate on what I am saying because they are stuck on their phones,” she stressed.

Dr Sabrina urged the students present to seek role models for mentorship emphasizing the role of parents in directing their children’s career paths on how to succeed in the world. “Listen to your parents and elders if you ever want to taste success,” she added.

Present too on the speakers’ list was popular motivational speaker Ethan Musolini who called upon students to believe in themselves if they are to ever follow any decision in life.

Although he showed up late for the career day, CEO of the Independent Magazine and seasoned journalist, Andrew Mwenda made an impact that was coupled with applauses from the crowd present.
