It is time up for Prof Wasswa Balunywa as Principle of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) after his contract which was renewed in 2018, has finally come to an end.
An internal memo addressed to staff at MUBS, which came after a sitting by the institution’s council read:
“Following the expiry of Prof. Wasswa Balunywa’s contract as Principal on May 31, 2023, Council at its Special Meeting held on June 02, 2023 resolved to appoint Prof. Moses Muhwezi as Acting Principal, pursuant to Section 40(2)(d) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended), until such a time when the position is filled substantively in accordance with the law,”
Prof Moses Muhwezi now steers the big wheel in the interim from his former position as Prof Balunywa’s Deputy. The latter had been in service for over 20 years.
It should be recalled that after his previous contract expiry in 2018, Prof Balunywa received President Museveni’s intervention for reappointment after there was feud within the MUBS top management on who was fit to take on the position.
Heading MUBS since its initiation in 1997, Prof Balunywa’s contract expiry this year comes at a time he is clocking 68 years of age.
The search for the next principal is on.
We’ll keep you posted.
