Ernest Ayesiga has won the by-election for the UCU 2020 Law Society Presidential election. Ayesiga got 334 votes that adds up to 61.7 per cent. Kanamwangi Dickens, his opponent got 161 votes, 29.7 per cent.
Ernest Ayesiga says that he is thankful to God for this achievement.
“I am happy and grateful to God and for everyone that believed in me. This achievement is an opportunity to serve the Law Society and it is an open door for many other opportunities,” he said.
He says that he did not take part in the initial election as a candidate.
“I did not participate in the first election as I was part of the electorate. I raised my bid for Presidency on 27 February, 2020.” he said.
He plans to amend the Law Society Constitution moving forward so as to ‘help the governments in future to run smoothly.’
“The Law Society Constitution should be in line with the principles of the Rule of Law and it will help the future governments to run smoothly,” he said.
Julius Nabimanya, the Chairperson of the Uganda Christian University Law School Electoral Commission says that the turn up of voters was low as the students claimed not to know any of the two candidates.
“There is a total of 1380 students at UCU Law School. You can see the biggest number did not turn up for the by election,” he said.
