After a period of close to one year, the electoral commission (EC) at Mbarara University of science and technology (MUST) has resumed guild elections after being disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the program released by MUST EC chairperson Hon Ronaldo Amunyongire, GRC and Guild presidential elections are set to be conducted on 24th Feb and 26th Feb respectively. The campaigns have been carried out via online platforms.
The public relations officer for MUST EC, Mr. AhimbisibwePhilip told our reporter that everything is set to carry guild elections following the Ministry of Health SOPs. ‘’We shall have 10 polling stations each equipped with handwashingfacilities and we shall ensure that social distance is maintained. We have partnered with the Academic registrar’s office to help us with authentic class lists that will aid us in the voting process,” he said.
Hon Ronaldo clarified the EC signed a memorandum of understanding with the guild presidential to ensure that elections are conducted freely on 26th February 2022. ”Currently, students are coming back to prepare for studies. We shall use that opportunity to ensure that students cast their vote following the set SOPs. Besides, we signed a memorandum of understanding with the candidates to proceed with the elections regardless of the turn up it may be on the voting day,” He explained.
Four gents and one lady are seeking student’s mandate to be next to the MUST Guild president and these include the following;

Mr. Isiko Mande (NUP)
Mr. Ruhinda Wilson (FDC)
