At about 2am on Saturday, the Judges crowned the crowd’s favorite, Muganwa Doreen, Miss Nkumba University and the first ever Mr. Nkumba crown went to Kyagaba Jimmy out of the six contestants.
You gotta give it up to Nkumba University for their struggled organization and managing to pull off a fine event on Friday night. Regardless of setbacks that the organizers faced from the beginning of the event, they somehow managed to pull off a fine event to the fullest.
Nkumba University Students’ Guild body organized yet another pageantry dubbed Mr. and Miss Nkumba that saw the first ever Mr. Nkumba chosen in a colorful and well attended event.
The event kicked off at 8pm but with the poor organization and delay in program, loud ‘Muveeyo’ (loosely translated as ‘leave the stage’) chants were heard from the crowd who were angry with the slag in the event and the boredom wielded by the mc’s and Dj’s.
Nkumba University’s very own entertained the students with never heard before jams but the students religiously hymned along. However at about 10:40, the models took to the red carpet to usher themselves in and this brought cause uproar and jubilation from the already hungry audience. The models looked dapper in their respective outfits leaving the judges astonished.
The models took on the runway to showcase their different outfits in the different categories of showcasing talent and fashion. The judges fired questions that left the contestants looking like they just saw a gay couple making out in public. Many failed to execute the questions asked and others simply misfired sending the audience to an outburst of laughter.
The event was coated with numerous performances from big names in the Ugandan music industry like Gravity Omutujju, Fille, Desire Luzinda and the energetic performance of the night was put up by grace Nakimera who gave the organizers value for money.
The after party was then taken to the nearby Club Palz where all the contestants celebrated and partied with other students after a heavy downpour disrupted the event.
The Guild President Nkumba Rhona thanked all participants and offered each a gift on her own account. Come Wednesday next week, the winners will be setting off for a trip to Zanzibar for a vacation courtesy of Pass events International.
The event was well attended one and surely everyone left a happy fellow save for a few who choose to get wasted and let alcohol have the best of them.
