The Kampala central division Member of Parliament (MP) Muhammed Nsereko has come out with advise to President Museveni to let finalists sit for their exams and non finalists be promoted to the next classes.
In a long piece that he posted on his Facebook wall, Nsereko bases his argument on the fact that it happens in international curriculum where assessment is not only exam based.
“Regarding education, let the finalists be examined basing on what they were taught in term one, in candidate classes or lasts semesters in institutions of higher learning.” He wrote.
“If you choose not to open, let all non finalists be promoted automatically to the next class or year in cases of higher institutions of learning.” He further advised.
He said this specifically not in support of students repeating a year, given the money hardships that have befallen the parents due to the lockdown.
In the same post, Nsereko says that he does not support the distribution of radios and TVs to the villages, saying that less than two million homes are connected to electricity and even some homes can not afford buying batteries for radios. He further questioned the gathering of students on TVs while they cannot be sent to study in schools and the process the distribution of these items will take, given the failed food and mask distribution.
Nsereko went ahead to suggest the best that President Museveni can do to help his population which he said are, giving them 20% of their NSSF, Loan interventions, rent waivers, utility bill waivers, help private school teachers, and letting UBC waive charge signals for other smaller TVs.
