While delivering his New Year’s visual message to Makerere University students, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the institution’s Vice-Chancellor revealed that continuing students will sit for their end-of-semester exams at the beginning of the year.
His message has come following multiple requests from students who wanted the exams to be held virtually following a spike in Omicron virus cases.
“When the year begins, we will receive back our continuing students for their semester two examinations. The examinations will be done here on campus physically.” Nawangwe said .
In the same video, Nawangwe lauded Makerere students for embracing online learning despite the challenges they faced in lockdown. Nawangwe further congratulated the university for successfully conducting the alternative assessment method for the first time.
Earlier this week, a section of students’ leaders issued statements requesting the university to hold the exams virtually over Omicron scare. However, Nawangwe’s message has trashed these requests as the university maintains that examinations will be held at the beginning of 2022 after which students will kick off a fresh semester later in February.
