A total of 2,144 students were passed out at Ndejje University’s 20th graduation ceremony that took place at the main campus in Luwero district on Friday.
The graduands received diplomas, degrees and postgraduates in various fields of education, social work, engineering among others.
The graduation of the student class of 2017/18 comprised of 1024 females (47.8%) and 1120 males (52.2%). The students who pursued various courses at both main and Kampala campuses of the university were accompanied by their parents and received their honors amidst ululations and excitement.
The theme for this graduation was “Consolidating, collaboration, innovation and internalization of higher Education” and the chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. Gideon Badagawa, the executive director of private sector foundation of Uganda.
He was flanked by several dignitaries from Government, Non- governmental organization (NGOs), University representatives from various universities and staff among others.
The chief guest cautioned the garduands against redundancy and lack of creativity at their work places as they are soon getting into the job market.
However, the university vice Chancellor Prof. Eriabu Lungujjo, urged the students to be exemplary citing that their degrees and diploma becomes irrelevant if it is not put into the service of humanity.
“Now it is the time to go show the world that you graduated from Ndejje University by being exemplary. Be creative and remember that your certificate, degree or diploma award is nothing if it is not put into good use and in the service of humanity,” Prof. Lungujjo told the graduands.
There were 63 first class degrees attained while a number got second class upper degree. It was the first time the university awarded diplomas in engineering courses. The best overall students were Betty Namugenyi from the Faculty of Engineering and James Ngonga from the Faculty of Business Administration and Management.
