Tracy Arinda and Evelyne Mugisha, students of Mary Hill High School Mbarara from Western Uganda have been flown to South Africa for an educational all-expenses paid trip courtesy of Stanbic Bank. According to Cathy Adengo, Head of Communications and CSI Stanbic Bank, Mary Hill High School managed to impress the judges and the audience with their ‘Co-operative Union Project Proposal’ project that scored 83%.
Their departure comes following their victory as the overall winners of the National Schools Championship 2017 competition which was launched by the ministry of education and Stanbic Bank earlier in February this year. Sending them to south Africa was apparently part of their winning prize as a 20 Million Solar system will also be given to their school.
It should be noted that over 3000 students from 40 secondary schools participated in a series of educational activities ranging from class debates, quiz competitions and dynamic group projects which were the basis for awarding the winner.
The first runners up was a team from Kibuli SS which walked away with an Apple iPad each on top of winning a fully installed water system for the school. The second runners up was Sacred Heart Girls’ Secondary School from Northern Uganda, who won savings accounts worth UGX 1 million for each participant whereas the third runners up, Teso College Aloet Secondary School from the Eastern region, earned themselves a savings accounts worth UGX500,000 each.
