A highly-placed source has exclusively tipped Campus Bee about the date on which hearing of the matter in which a group of students sued President Museveni will start.
In the unprecedented lawsuit, the six students of Makerere’s School of Law are challenging the presidential directive of November 1, 2016 that closed Makerere University indefinitely.
According to the highly credible but presently unverified information from our source, hearing of the case will commence on February 13, 2017 at 9:30am before Hon. Lady Justice Patricia Basaza-Wasswa of the High Court, Civil Division.
The commencement of proceedings in this case will come more than three months into the university closure that has earned MAK’s students the label of “drop-outs,” and their lecturers the oxymoronic label of “unemployed staff”.
A far away hearing date in February 2017 may be particularly unwelcome news for the over 30,000 anxious students of Makerere whose academic and career progression remains on an indefinite halt since the closure.
Campusbee has contacted some of the litigant-students for their comment on this development and their next course of action and we shall be bringing you the updates as they unfold.
