Many a times, we have received information about the continued misuse of authority by the Student’s Guild Government at the Uganda Christian University, Mukono campus to be specific and alas we have substantiated the claims.
In a leaked letter (RE: Guild Operations, 2018) dated 28th May 2018 addressed to the Directorate of Students Affairs of the University, an office mandated to supervise and oversee the Student’s Guild, the Guild Speaker is seen to express uttermost disappointment in some members of the students’guild that call themselves the “Top Government” in the sense that they have hesitantly ignored the rules and failed to play by the acceptable protocol as far as they are mandated to avail accountability, transparency and consultation with the Guild Government.
The letter further under point 6 paragraph 2 stated that, “There’s a group of ill-advised so called “Top Government” who want to govern the issues that concern the student’s body based on patronage…”
A close source to the office when asked who the “Top Government” consisted of cited the Vice President and the General Secretary while another source accused the Prime Minister Amongin and her deputy Elijah of being greedy and apportioning fat allowances to themselves. He added, “… Elijah doesn’t even want people sitting and loitering around office.”
When contacted on the letter, the Guild Speaker said, “It’s true I authored a letter to the DOSA’s office to address critical aspects in our Government. It’s meant to remind those who sought office last year to respond to student’s expectations or to resign …”
Both the Prime Minister and her deputy were unavailable to comment on the claims.
