After the management of Makerere University led by the acting vice chancellor Prof Umar Kakumba initiated peace talks between administration and students, there was a ray of hope that struck the university well wishers that maybe calm would return to the ivory tower.

In dramatic turn of events this evening, and after several hours of engagement between the two sides, the students claim that management called him the Police to arrest them all, which prompted them to flee the building using the windows because all doors were manned by Policemen.

However, according to the Head of Digital Communications at Makerere University, Mathias Ssemanda, the students attempted to arrest members of management which prompted the Police to intervene.

“One of the students declared the meeting hall a ‘prison’ and ordered for the closure of its door to corner university administration members. Students almost beat up the acting Vice Chancellor but he was saved by the Police.” Ssemanda said.
