Just a few hours to the 66th Makerere University Graduation, today, the newly appointed Chancellor of the third best ranked university in Africa, Makerere, was installed. Ahead of tomorrow event that will need a Chancellor to preside over for the next three days, Ezra Suruma, the ex-finance minister was dully installed in the presence of The Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda flanked by Ex-MAK Don and Chancellor Prof Mondo Kagonyera and other dignitaries from both the University and Government.
Ezra Suruma is now the titular head of the University and from now on will be presiding at all ceremonial assemblies of Makerere University and in this name, will confer degrees and other academic titles and distinctions. The Chancellor was appointed by the President on the recommendation of the University Council.
Dr Ezra Suruma in his remarks after being installed thanked his predecessor Dr Kagonyera for the worrk he had and promised to carry the flag on higher. “Thank you for accomplishing 8 years of incredible service as Chancellor and i will do more to see this institution grow within my reign”, noted the New Chancellor.
Starting off, Dr Ezra will preside over the 66th graduation that is slated to run for four days. The Ceremony will be held from Tuesday 19th to Friday 22nd January 2016.
