On their way to ensuring that the world digests true and reliable information about COVID-19, giant social platform Facebook has taken down a post shared by Makerere University. The post, which was shared on Wednesday January 27th contained information about Uganda’s first clinical trial on COVID-19 treatment is no more.
“We removed a post with false information about COVID-19,” Facebook revealed shortly after taking down the post.

It should be recalled that the giant social platform vowed to remove misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines rolled out by several countries worldwide. What Makerere and Mulagolaunched recently wasn’t a vaccine but a COVID-19 treatment which is given to patients who have already contracted the deadly virus.
Facebook’s policy to remove false information about the virus is reportedly aimed at preventing “imminent physical harm” caused by conspiracy theories and false cures.
President Museveni yesterday officiated the function on Uganda’s clinical trial for COVID-19 treatment at Mulago Hospital. Medical experts from Makerere and Mulago joined forces to reach this stage.
The drug, a natural chemotherapeutic product developed by the Natural Chemotherapeutics Research Institute has undergone a series of vigorous scientific approvals, according to the presidential think tank on epidemics (PRESIDE).
“We are witnessing the first clinical trial of a highly scientific process to analyze and validate a natural product anticipated to have antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immunological ability,” the PRESIDE statement said.
“The clinical trial will validate the content, standardization and replication of the product after which it will be rolled out for industrial production and widespread use,” the statement added.
The think tank said the drug, coded UBV-01N, will be the first Ugandan natural chemotherapeutic product to go through an international level clinical trial process.
While speaking at the function, Museveni vowed to enhance scientists’ salaries, adding that they should never lack what to eat or to put on.
