Cavendish University Uganda has joined the rest of the world to grieve for the death of H.E Benjamin William Mkapa the former president of Tanzania who has been serving as their Chancellor.
In an announcement posted on the university media platforms, the late Mkapa was described as Cavendish University Academic model who served with all his heart.
“It is with profound shock and deep grief that we learnt early this morning of the sudden demise of our Chancellor H.E. Benjamin Mkapa. Throughout his tenure as the Chancellor at Cavendish University Uganda (2014-2020), he has played a significant role in the development and strengthening of our Academic model, teaching and learning philosophy. His passing will be mourned by the entire Cavendish University fraternity, we have lost not only a leader but a close friend,’’ part of the announcement reads.
‘’H.E. Benjamin Mkapa, has been a distinguished former President of the United Republic of Tanzania (1995-2005), an accomplished education advocate and a compassionate leader. He will always be remembered for his Pan African ideals, great zeal and commitment in championing the education of global citizens particularly in Africa,’’ the announcement further reads.
The late Mkapa passed away in the wee hours of today at Dar-es-salam Hospital Tanzania. May his soul rest in peace.
