Word reaching our editorial desks indicate how the FDC Candidate in the MUBS Guild Presidential election, Walter Niwagaba is seeking to petition court in disagreement with the results from the School’s electoral commission announced yesterday evening.
According to the MUBS Electoral Commission, Uganda Young Democrats’ Awori Emmanuel emerged winner with a total of 2395 votes as opposed to Walter, who garnered 1967 votes in the election, something he has since failed to agree to.
There was some bit of commotion moment’s before the electoral commission announced the results as Niwagaba’s camp tried to confront the Electoral Commission’s chairman before being forced out by Police. He says students must get what belongs to them as delayed justice is an injustice.
“With all the irregularities that have been sighted out and with all the clear evidence that we have together as a team, we are going to court and I have to say Makerere University Business School is going to get a by-election and the students shall get a leader of their choice, not a choice of the electoral commission neither a choice of just a few minorities,” the enraged Niwagaba said.
He adds on that the future of MUBS as an institution and students at large is at stake with such irregularities being exercised. His argument is based on a pre-ticked ballot paper image that appeared on social media yet no student was allowed to go with phones or any recording material at the polling stations
Our efforts to get a comment from the MUBS Electoral Commission’s chairman proved futile as none of his known contacts were switched off by press time.
We shall keep you posted.
