The Makerere University Business School (MUBS) is set to make history with its Cultural Gala, a vibrant celebration of African heritage, music, dance, and art. Scheduled for Friday, April 4th, the event promises an electrifying showcase of talent, headlined by Ugandan music sensations Fik Fameika and Vinka.
Organized by the MUBS Ministry of Social Affairs and Entertainment in collaboration with the MUBS Guild and Coca-Cola, the gala is more than just an entertainment spectacle—it’s a movement fostering unity among young Africans while celebrating their diverse cultural backgrounds.
For the first time in MUBS history, a press conference was held to unveil details of the event, underscoring its magnitude. HE Moses Amanya, the 27th Guild President of MUBS, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “What we have heard today has never happened before. In the history of MUBS, we have never had a press conference for a cultural gala. I call upon each and every person to make their way to this gala on Friday, April 4th.” He emphasized that culture is a divine gift and should be embraced wholeheartedly.
MUBS, a leading business school, is also a melting pot of talent and creativity. Students from Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, DR Congo, and various Ugandan tribes will unite to showcase their traditions through storytelling, dance, music, and fashion. “However much MUBS is a business school, we have people with great talents that need to be put to use,” Amanya noted. The gala will serve as a platform for students to shine and share their artistic skills with the world.
A major sponsor of the event, Coca-Cola, has stepped up to support the initiative, reinforcing its commitment to empowering young talent. Macklean Kukundakwe, Coca-Cola’s Country Lead Trade Marketing Manager and a proud MUBS alumna, expressed the company’s excitement about the gala. “As Coca-Cola, we celebrate culture, and today, we believe in empowering the next generation. We are committed to supporting Gen Z as they showcase their unique talents,” she stated. Kukundakwe encouraged students to attend in large numbers, promising an unforgettable experience. “Bring your squad, your gang, your bros—and as Coca-Cola, we will make sure that we share a Coke and create memories together.”
Adding to the excitement, the gala will feature a special live link-up with Kenyatta University in Kenya, enabling students from both institutions to watch each other’s performances in real time. This cross-border connection highlights the pan-African spirit of the event, reinforcing the idea that culture transcends geographical boundaries.
Africa is a continent rich in diverse traditions, but in today’s fast-paced world, many young people risk losing touch with their heritage. The MUBS Cultural Gala is more than a celebration; it’s a revival of cultural pride, encouraging students to reconnect with their roots while appreciating others’ traditions.
For many attendees, this event is also a launching pad for their artistic ambitions. Aspiring musicians, dancers, and fashion designers will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a large audience, with the presence of established stars like Fik Fameika and Vinka serving as inspiration.
Coca-Cola’s involvement extends beyond sponsorship; it is about fostering a space where culture and talent converge. Macklean Kukundakwe’s message was clear: Coca-Cola is here to celebrate, uplift, and create lasting memories for the students.
The MUBS Main Pitch will be the epicenter of excitement on Friday, April 4th. Be part of history, celebrate Africa’s unity in diversity, and support young talent at the first-ever MUBS Cultural Gala. As HE Moses Amanya put it, “Culture is God-given—that’s why we embrace it with all our hearts.”
Don’t miss out—see you at the gala!
