Fire gutted the main building at Uganda’s premier university, Makerere, last night barely days when a similar fire almost took down Mary Stuart hall at the same university.
The fire was in the registry office of the university, but was fortunately taken out immediately by the people around.
Initial reports indicate that it was caused by faulty electric connections but this has not been confirmed yet.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Mr. Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the fire but didn’t divulge into details as they were scanty.
“There was a fire at around 7:30 pm but it was contained by the people around” Mr. Owoyesigire said.
Police however dispatched a fire truck to the scene just incase there was need to put out some fire.
In a space of just a week, Mary Stuart girls’ hall of residence was gutted by fire that burnt their canteens to ashes and about three girls walked away with injuries. Not so many days from then, another fire gutted Baheesi hostel of Nakawa based Makerere University Business School (MUBS) but no casualities were reported.
The Police linked all these fire outbreaks to short circuits in the said places.
We shall keep you updated on any details.
