First lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Honourable Janet Museveni is expected to lay a foundation stone for Makerere University’s new Main building.

Honourable Janet Museveni is expected to visit Makerere University on Tuesday May 17th, 2022, and get an update on the latest Makerere at 100 centennial celebration arrangements and as well lay a foundation stone for the new main building.

The Makerere University iconic Main building also known as the ivory tower was gutted by fire in September 2020, leaving a great section of the building shuttered.

Two years later, in April 2022, reconstruction of this iconic structure commenced and the building that previously stood firm on Makerere hill has to be demolished.

One of the tasks, perhaps the hardest, given to the contractors is to remodel the main building just as it was before being destroyed by the fire.

The main building is expected to be complete before the end of the year 2022 with many optimistic that this will be achieved before the Makerere at 100 celebrations in October.
