Kyambogo University that has been having an acting vice-chancellor for a while now might soon get itself a substantial Vice chancellor after five candidates were picked for Kyambogo VC Job.
Yesterday, the Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Search Committee forwarded five candidates to the Senate to be considered for appointment of the university’s top leader.
The selected candidates included Busitema university’s deputy vice-chancellor Prof Samuel Baker Kucel, Associate Prof Umar Ahmed Kasule from Islamic University in Uganda, Prof Aaron Wanyama the former Kyambogo University Dean of Faculty of Science, Prof Eli Katunguka the former acting Vice Chancellor Kyambogo university and Makerere University Business School’s Prof Geoffrey Bakunda.
The senate is tasked to choose only three of the five recommended candidates and then it is expected to forward their names to the university council which is the highest decision-making organ to select a substantive vice chancellor from the trio. The new vice chancellor that will be chosen is expected to lead the 14-year-old university for the next five years.
Professor Kucel and Associate Prof Kasule are applying for this job for the first time whereas, Prof Wanyama, Prof Katunguka and Prof Bakunda have given it a second shot after the university council in June last year nullified the first results from the Prof Patrick Mangheni’s search committee.
The university was forced to re-advertise the position.
