The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has told international students residing in all its three campuses namely Main Campus , Kampala Campus and Females’ Campus to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) put in place by the Government and the University in the wake of the new wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The University says it is obligatory for the international students staying on the campus to follow SOPs or leave the campus if they are not comfortable with the set measures aimed at safeguarding the from the deadly pandemic that has killed over 3 Million people in the world.
The Dean of Students (University Coordinator) of the institution Dr Sulaiti Kabali says that IUIU COVID-19 Taskforce agreed that international students must follow all SOPS including moving out of the campus without proper reasons.
“If you have justifiable reasons you can go out but avoid crowds because you don’t know who has the pandemic. Wear your mask always, sanitize or wash your hands regularly and don’t allow visitors in your hostels,” Dr Kabali says.
The University Coordinator says the institution is considering to bankroll testing of COVID-19 among all international students. Dr Kabali also says the institution will engage the Government of Uganda on the possibility of vaccinating the international students with COVID-19 jabs.
The university has assured security to the students during their stay on the campus. The Islamic University in Uganda has several international students from other countries especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.
