During the launch of the 9th National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Universities Career Expo and Exhibition at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Mr Byarugaba Richard, the NSSF managing director advised university students looking forward to join the labor market to transform the money that they would have spent on very expensive graduation and wedding parties into capital for startup business ventures after graduation.
With emphasis, he further said unlike in the old days when jobs awaited university graduates, today, the jobs available are for problem solvers and practitioners.
“Why should you hold a graduation or wedding party and spend over 70 million Ugandan shillings and thereafter go to the streets empty? Why don’t you rather get that money and buy a house, or start a project which generates income to sustain you?” he asked.
This year’s expo focused on equipping students with financial knowledge. Various speakers among Mr Apollo Mbowa, the NSSF head of customer financial advisory unit, Mr Ricky Rapa Thompson, the managing director of Safe Boda shared how they started their own enterprises.
