Former students of Busoga University are set to miss their end of semester exams after failing to pay tuition fees to their new Institutions. Following the University’s closure by Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) over failure to meet the minimum standard, Nursing students of Busoga University were distributed to other Institutions.
These students were distributed in three medical institutions of Lubega School of Nursing in Iganga, Johnass International College of Health Sciences in Buikwe District, and Iganga School of Nursing. According to these students, they had already paid UGX 1.4 Million of tuition to Busoga University but their new Institutes demand them to pay UGX 1.8 Million after spending less than a month towards the end of the semester at these Institutes.
Apparently most these students are likely to miss their end of semester exams kicking off today Thursday 21st June 2018, “We are beginning exams tomorrow (Thursday). I had already paid my fees for the semester but when I was brought here at Lubega Nursing, they want me to pay again which my parents said they don’t have.” One student who preferred to remain anonymous said.
As the government plans to take over Busoga university as a public university, president Museveni early this year set up a committee chaired by State Minister for Higher Education, Dr Chrysostom Muyingo, to investigate the circumstances under which the university was closed.
