The mood around Kyambogo University turned sombre in the afternoon of Tuesday 10th March after news broke that Allan Mugume, a former student of the Banda-based institution and ex-Minister of National and International Affairs had breathed his last after being involved in a motor vehicle accident.
The accident occurred in the night of Monday, 9th March at 10:00 PM after a taxi registration number UBC 513B that was travelling from Mbale to Kampala crashed into a truck around Kakira Sugar Works, Jinja. Efforts to rush him to the hospital were futile as he died later in the morning of 10th March. He and a friend, also a former Kyambogo University student were reportedly returning to Kampala from field assignment in Mbale.
Mugume, who had just graduated with a Bachelor of Lands and Surveying in the Faculty of Education in December 2019 interested himself in Guild leadership alongside Academics during his stay at the University. He was a Guild Representative Councillor (GRC) of Mandela Hall in the 2018/2019 Guild regime where Amanya German was Guild President. He also led the Patriotism Movement of Kyambogo University during his time .
“It is unbelievable! I pray that the almighty God welcomes Mugume with open arms and gives him perfect rest. We shall forever hold onto the memories and valuable lessons we learnt from him. Gone too soon,” Kyasimire Penpal, the former Vice President of the Guild commented on the death.
We shall keep you posted on burial arrangements for the deceased and any other matter that arises in relation to this tragedy. May the soul of the deceased rest in eternal peace.
